Hello! I hope you’re all enjoying this mid-summer month and crossing off all your outdoorsy adventures! We recently crossed off another great little park and I wanted to take a second to share just a little bit about it with you. This one was on our list solely for the close proximity to our home. It is only about 25 minutes away from us. After visiting and reading a little history about this park though, I find it pretty fascinating.

This unique park designates the spot where every single township, range and section measurements begin for the entire state of Michigan. Interesting, right?  It is being preserved for its historic value…for good reason! It is approximately a one and a half mile round trip hike to view two monuments.

The begining of this trailhead with the perfectly falling sun between the trees was just beautiful!

Parking is located off Meridian Road at the trailhead. There is no water or restroom facilities, so plan accordingly. We brought our dinner with us and had a little picnic before we did an evening hike, there’s one picnic table! It was the perfect week-night excursion.

I’m really just a sucker for these golden-hour hikes, and couldn’t get enough of how pretty the heavily wooded trail was!

About half way into the trail we found a geocache! If you haven’t explored geocaching, check it out! It’s basically a treasure hunt in the woods! It is such a fun addition to hiking for kids. Our three boys are always WAY more into a hike if they can search for something!

Side note this one was REALLY COOL. But, No matter what is in a geocache, it’s always fun to write our name in the book, and cross another one off the list. Much like crossing off state parks, there’s something about saying you explored it that is satisfying!

We continued on our way and from the Geocache it was just a short hike to the sign directing you one way or another to each of the markers. We went to the north marker first, only because it was the closest!

We didn’t read much about the markers before hitting the trail, so I suggest reading the sign at the entry of the park before heading to the marker, if you want some of the history. There isn’t anything out at the marker that gives info. You can read more HERE as well.

It was really neat walking upon this land marker. It felt like something out of a tomb raider movie. We all just checked it out for a few minutes and took it all in before heading out and over to the other land marker.

Note: The second one isn’t as epic looking, but was still fun to go see.

All in all- if you’re any kind of history buff, or just like to hike a good, short trail, we do recommend this one. It felt like we were way out in the woods, even though we weren’t. It’s a great hike!
