Saugatuck is a quintessential Michigan beach town. It steals my heart every time we go. It’s quaint, the people are so nice, the food and shopping are good, and we’ve just never had a bad time here.

While we’ve been to Saugatuck many times, we had only done the walk to the beach at the State Park a couple of times. I think the hike is one of the things that really sets this park apart from the others, and although a little challenging, I kind of love that about it. You have to work a little bit for the reward. There are four trails that lead to the beach, the shortest being .75 miles via the beach trail (yellow markers).

Saugatuck Dunes State Park  has 2.5 miles of sandy Lake Michigan shoreline, dunes, forested areas, and 13 miles of trails.

The Felt Estate and the Shore Acres Township Park are located adjacent to the park and have a 2-mile mountain bike trail, a disc golf course and other  outdoor recreation opportunities (free of charge).

Once you land on the beach, there’s plenty of room for relaxing, the water is clear, and it’s just the perfect little spot. It’s also important to note this is a dog friendly beach!

Make sure to bring a wagon if you plan on bringing all the beach things, and don’t forget the snacks!

We love it here, and can’t wait until the next time we’re in this area. Check out Saugatuck State Park if you’re up for a beach day with a little hike.
