Wilson State Park is situated on 36 wooded acres on the north end of Budd Lake in Clare County. We came upon this little park and campground while traveling north to take our boys to camp. On our way home, we decided to stop and have lunch. It’s a great little spot to stretch your legs and get off the highway for a bit!

Fun Fact: The park was originally the site of the Wilson Brothers Sawmill and Company Store, which thrived in the late 1800s.

The park is home to a modern campground, a playground, a picnic area and offers opportunities for fishing, paddling, day trips and more. There’s a nice beach area for swimming too. There were quite a few people on the beach and in the water on Budd lake.

We had a lot of fun eating lunch at the playground and walking around the campground. The campground sits across the street from the Clair County fairgrounds. There is a lot going on at these fairgrounds throughout the year.

The campground included a newly updated bathhouse and it looks like they are continuing improvements throughout the park.

There is a mini cabin, as well as as modern lodge for rent. I really like the look of the modern lodge, below.

All in all it was a really nice stop here. If you’re looking for a mid-state campground on your travels, put Wilson State Park on your list!
